Privacy Policy

You may browse without an account. If you email us, we receive your address, message, attachments, and details you choose to send. We use them to reply, investigate corrections, maintain necessary editorial records, and prevent abuse. The site currently has no accounts, checkout, paid membership, newsletter signup, or public comments.

Hosting and security systems may log IP address, browser and device type, operating system, requested and referring pages, time, response code, and security signals. These records deliver pages, diagnose failures, plan capacity, and block malicious traffic. A cookie is a small browser record; related tools include local storage, pixels, and tags. Bird & Butter does not currently use them for behavioral advertising, although strictly necessary security or preference storage may operate.

Google Analytics is not presently configured. If enabled later, Google may process online identifiers and usage events under its terms; this policy will describe the live configuration and required regional consent controls. Advertising is also not live. Before an ad network is activated, this page will name the actual provider, explain its cookies and personalized-ad practices, add opt-out routes, and include its required disclosure language. No network is represented as a current partner.

Information is used to operate and secure the publication, answer requests, correct material, enforce terms, and comply with law. We do not rent email addresses or sell personal information for money. Hosting, email, security, backup, and maintenance providers may process limited data needed for their work. Disclosure may also occur under valid legal process, to address fraud or harm, or in a protected transfer of the website.

Where European or UK law applies, processing may rely on legitimate interests in operating a secure publication, steps you request, consent for an optional feature, or legal obligation. Providers may process data abroad using safeguards required by applicable transfer law.

Logs are retained only as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting, subject to provider settings. Correspondence remains while a matter is active and longer when needed to document a correction, permission, dispute, or abuse. Reasonable safeguards reduce risk, but no Internet or email system is completely secure.

Depending on where you live, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or a copy; object to processing; withdraw consent; appeal a decision; or complain to a regulator. California and other covered U.S. residents may also ask to know categories, sources, purposes, and recipients and opt out of covered sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling. We do not discriminate for exercising a right. Legally recognized browser opt-out signals will be honored where applicable to an active practice.

Email hello (at) birdandbutter.com with “Privacy request.” We may proportionately verify identity or an agent’s authority and will respond within the applicable legal period. The site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. External sites have their own policies. We will revise this notice as features, vendors, or law change and update the date above.

Most browsers let you view existing cookies, delete them, block new ones, or limit third-party storage. Private-browsing modes and content blockers offer additional controls. Browser settings apply to the device and browser in which they are changed, so a choice may need to be repeated elsewhere. Blocking all storage can prevent security, preference, or accessibility features from behaving as intended. Rejecting personalized advertising in the future would not necessarily remove all ads; it may result in ads selected without a behavioral profile.

The categories that may currently be collected are identifiers such as an IP or email address; Internet or electronic activity such as page requests and browser details; approximate location inferred from an IP by infrastructure providers; and correspondence content. Sources are the visitor, the visitor’s browser or device, and operational providers. The business purposes are delivery, security, debugging, communication, editorial accountability, and legal compliance. These categories are retained under the periods described above and are not collected for materially unrelated purposes without further notice.

Bird & Butter does not ask readers for government identifiers, precise geolocation, financial account credentials, health records, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or biometric information. Please do not include such information in routine correspondence. The current site does not use personal data to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and it does not profile readers for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or eligibility decisions.

A privacy question will be handled separately from an editorial disagreement. If a request is denied in whole or part, the response will explain the reason to the extent required and identify any appeal route. EEA and UK residents may contact the supervisory authority where they live or work. Bird & Butter may keep a minimal record that a request was completed so it can demonstrate compliance and avoid restoring deleted information from routine systems.

Email travels through the sender’s provider and the publication’s email provider, each of which may keep routing and security records under its own policy. Following a link to a grocery service, manufacturer, government resource, or another publisher leaves the Bird & Butter environment; that destination decides what it collects. This policy does not cover an outside service merely because an article links to it. It also does not override a provider’s separate notice when that provider acts independently rather than solely on the publication’s instructions.
